We are a Primary Care Centre and we are a member of the South East and City
PHO (SECPHO). This means that funding from the Government keeps our charges as
low as possible.
Making an Appointment
We want to make it easy for you to see a doctor or nurse without a long wait.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9:15 am to 5 pm and can be
made at reception. Appointments with the doctor and the nurse can be made by
phone.
Booking ahead of time is the best way to see the doctor of your choice but
not always guaranteed.
If you are unsure whether you need an appointment urgently, please ask to
speak to the nurse.
Please note that you may not be able to see the doctor of your choice on the
day.
In order to make an appointment, please telephone our reception line on
04 385 8596 Our phone lines are open from 9 am to 5 pm.
Please let us know if you are unable to attend for your appointment.
Interpreting services can be arranged for non-English speakers or for those
people who are not confident communicating in English as a second language.
Please let us know when an interpreter is needed as this needs to be arranged in
advance.
General Medical Practice
Our general medical practice offers these services:
-
medical consultation
- minor surgery
- travel vaccinations
- free sexual health consultation for Under 25s(conditions apply)
- a nurse lead clinic for chronic disease monitoring
- 'flu injections for the winter
- liquid nitrogen clinics
- a special diabetes clinic each month on a Wednesday morning.
If in doubt about anything medical please ask to speak to our nurse.
Registering with the Centre
Patients who are members of the Wellington Peoples Centre can register
with the practice by calling in at reception. When registering you will be
asked to complete a PHO enrolment registration form for each person registering
at the practice. In addition all patients will be requested to complete a new
patient questionnaire, allowing us to provide medical care in the interim period,
while your medical records are transferred from your old practice to this one.
Your membership needs to be current to be eligible for the members rate.
Please bring your community services card if eligible with you to the centre.
Patients who wish to be seen as Immigration Medicals need to bring with
them, their passports, 3 passport photos, their immigration medical form, and
$115.
We operate as a group practice, and you may consult with any member of the
team.
Out of Hours Care
Outside of surgery hours, primary care services are provided by Accident
& Urgent Medical Centre, 17 Adelaide Road, Newtown on 04 384 4944. For our
current members a subsidised consultation fee of $25 will be charged
Membership must be current and the membership card must be presented on the
day, as well $25 consultation fee. For non members a higher fee applies.
Note: If you do not have your membership card with you or you are not a
member on the day of treatment, you will be charged at a higher rate.
Test Results
Please telephone the reception line on 04 385 8596, and ask for our nurse who
will be able to pass on test results. Should the
doctor or nurse wish to discuss the results with you for any reason, and are
unavailable then you will be asked to phone back at a time to speak
to them, or an appointment made.
The People's Centre will not necessarily advise patients of normal test results
unless asked to do so. Patients are welcome to enquire about their results by
speaking to the nurse or doctor.
Regular Check Ups
Patients who have not had a doctors consultation within the last 2
years, may request a free consultation. Please arrange this with the nurse.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients requiring regular medication, may, with a doctors approval,
may obtain repeat prescription by ordering them in person, by fax.
Your prescription may be collected in person, posted to you (if you include
a stamped addressed envelope with your request), or sent direct to the local
chemist.
Data Protection / Confidentiality
Your personal information is as important to us as it is to you. We collect
and store data in both paper and electronic forms.
Your medical records are held in the strictest confidence.
Privacy act - In accordance with the Privacy Act 1993, your personal
information will not be passed on to any other source without your permission.
You have the right to review and correct any information held by us. Please let
reception or the nurse know that you wish to do so and we can have the correct
form signed by you and a time to do so will be given, with the supervision of
the doctor or nurse.
Violence & Aggression
We operate zero-tolerance policy toward any form of aggression or violence towards
any member of the practice team, or patient/ visitor on our premises. This
includes all forms of physical, verbal or threatening behaviour.
Anyone threatening or abusing any member of the team may be removed from the
practice list, or other restrictions placed upon the services we provide to
them.
Complaints Process
It is important to us that members are able to make complaints and
suggestions so we can provide the best possible service.
Any complaint can be made by speaking to a staff member, preferably the
Health Services Coordinator, or to the Peoples Centre Management Committee
through its chair, if necessary by mail ( Wellington Peoples Centre,
PO Box 9491, Te Aro, Wellington 6141 ).
All complaints will be taken seriously. They will be acknowledged within
seven days, and dealt with as soon as possible. You will be advised of the
action in regard to your complaint.
Taking a complaint further
If you are not satisfied with the way that your complaint has been dealt
with and it concerns a medical matter, you may refer unresolved complaints to
the Health and Disability Services Commissioner:
